Temporary fence rental cost starts with measured linear feet, not a count guessed from the civil plan. JOLT rents a 6 ft-tall galvanized chain-link panel system at $3.50/LF/mo, then bills installation and removal as separate per-foot lines. The estimator also carries transport, the deposit, monthly percentages, gates, windscreen and the actual month when the perimeter can come down.

A useful takeoff has three drawings on one sheet: the fixed boundary, every opening and the truck route used to place the panels. Price the line that can be installed, not the property perimeter that happens to look clean on paper. The temporary fence rental page holds the published equipment and service details.

How do you measure a temporary fence perimeter?

Walk the intended line with a measuring wheel and split it at every corner, return and opening. Panels are rigid 10 ft sections, so each segment should land on a 10 LF step. JOLT starts at 100 LF, quotes in 10 LF steps and sends runs over 2,000 LF to the yard for a written quote.

Work the 100 ft by 150 ft example

A closed rectangle measuring 100 ft by 150 ft has two 100 ft sides and two 150 ft sides. Add them and the perimeter is 500 LF. At one 10 ft panel for every 10 LF, the baseline is 50 panels.

That count assumes all four corners land at panel joints. It also assumes the gate occupies a slot already inside the 500 LF layout. Use the panel-count answer when a shape has short legs, offsets or a curve that changes the simple division.

   Mark the controlled area

   Draw the excavation, laydown yard, office, storage and public edge. Keep the line outside active digging and give the superintendent room to work inside it.

   Place every opening

   Mark the vehicle gate, pedestrian gate and any required emergency opening before measuring. A gate takes a panel slot, so the opening belongs in the layout instead of being added after the count.

   Measure each straight run

   Walk from joint to joint along the ground. Record all four sides separately, then round each segment to the next 10 LF step before adding the run.

   Check truck access

   Trace the delivery approach and leave a usable laydown area near the fence route. A line behind parked equipment, trench spoils or a locked interior gate can make the planned unloading sequence unworkable.

   Send the current drawing

   Give JOLT the measured run, openings, job address and requested window. Field conditions still control the installed footage, but a marked drawing keeps the estimate tied to the same 500 LF line.

Let the gate come out of the run

A vehicle gate should not be treated as extra fence pasted onto the outside of the perimeter. It replaces one or more fixed positions in the line, and the gate hardware is quoted in writing. Show the clear opening and turning path so a truck does not have to swing through stored material or the pedestrian route.

The laydown area matters for the same reason. Panels, stands and clamps have to move from the truck to the line without crossing excavation or live traffic. The jobsite setup checklist is a useful second review for access, snow storage and changing phases.

What is in a 6 ft by 10 ft fence panel run?

JOLT's system uses galvanized chain-link panels that are 6 ft tall and 10 ft wide. Steel tube stands support the frames, and clamps join adjacent panels. The published fence facts do not include a panel weight, stand weight or complete truck-load weight, so those figures do not belong in the takeoff.

Panels make the line

One panel covers 10 LF of a straight run. A 500 LF baseline therefore takes 50 panels, subject to the segment-by-segment layout. Chain link lets the site remain visible while creating a clear boundary between work and the public edge.

The frame stays above grade because this is a freestanding system, not a permanent post fence. That makes route preparation different from drilling holes, but it does not make the ground irrelevant. Each stand still needs a usable location that is not balanced on debris, a trench lip or an active drainage path.

Stands, clamps and ballast make it a system

The stand carries the panel at grade. The clamp ties neighboring frames together so the run behaves as a connected line instead of a row of loose rectangles. Ballast is then selected and set during installation for the actual layout and exposure.

JOLT does not publish one ballast count for all sites. Corners, ends, screened sections, soil, hardscape and wind exposure differ. A manufacturer's temporary-fence guidance says a wind-load calculation helps determine the stabilisation method and weighted ballast needed for the location and environment; Blok 'N' Mesh also says higher-wind locations may require more ballast.

How do wind, windscreen and gates change the layout?

Colorado wind exposure is not one number for every parcel. An open yard near the interstate, a resort service court and a sheltered town lot can put different loads on the same 6 ft panel. The correct response is a site layout with ballast selected in the field, not an invented universal count.

Windscreen changes what the wind sees

Open chain link passes more air than a covered panel. Privacy mesh, dust screen, banners and solid fabric reduce those openings and increase the area presented to the wind. That is why windscreen must be stated before installation and cannot be treated as decoration added later.

The manufacturer's guidance does not publish a multiplier that can be transferred to JOLT's panels. It says ballast and stabilisation depend on the location and environment, so the defensible estimate leaves the quantity to the installer. JOLT quotes windscreen in writing and sets ballast during installation; it does not publish a windscreen price or ballast count.

Windscreen can provide privacy and visual separation at a construction entrance or event back-of-house line. It can also hide the view a spotter needs at a gate. Mark screened segments on the drawing instead of applying one assumption to all 500 LF.

Pedestrian and vehicle gates need their own paths

A pedestrian gate puts daily foot traffic through one controlled position. Place it near the site office or check-in point without sending workers through the vehicle swing. A vehicle gate needs enough clear area on both sides for the expected movement and must not sweep into staged material.

JOLT quotes both gate types in writing because no gate price is published. The cost calculator accepts a gate count up to one per panel slot in the run, shows each gate as quoted and labels the numerical totals as floors. It does not add a made-up gate amount.

For an event, entrances may change with vendor load-in, public opening and teardown. Keep one current drawing and one person responsible for approving changes. The events and festivals plan connects fence openings with lighting and traffic control.

Why does JOLT install instead of dropping panels off?

The published service is installed fence. JOLT delivers the panels, stands and clamps, sets the accepted run and later removes it. Installation is $1.75 per linear foot once, and removal is $1.75 per linear foot once.

The installer sees the actual line

A drawing cannot show every rut, snow pile, spoil stack or last-minute delivery conflict. Installation puts the panel count, measured footage, stand locations and ballast decision in the same field review. It also establishes where quoted gates and screened sections belong.

The delivery invoice carries installation. The final invoice carries removal. JOLT publishes no crew size or installation time, so an estimator should schedule access and a clean route without promising a number of hours.

Drop-off would leave the renter to interpret connections, support and field conditions. That is not the service listed for this equipment. The how-it-works sequence explains the 2–4 week standard window and the reservation steps.

Removal is planned work too

Panels that were clear on day 1 can be boxed in by material, paving or equipment by month 6. Keep both sides of the line reachable and restore truck access before pickup. Give at least 15 days' written notice, because rent continues until retrieval under the Rental Agreement terms.

Do not have a laborer unbolt a section to make a shortcut. Call 970-279-1015 before a run moves or a phase changes. The new position may alter measured footage, openings and ballast even when the same panels stay on the project.

What do 1, 3 and 6 months cost for 500 LF?

For 500 LF, one month of rent is $1,750/mo. Installation is $875, removal is $875 and the reservation deposit is $500. The damage waiver and environmental fee apply to rent each month.

Separate recurring lines from one-time lines

Transport is added by job address. A fence-only order pays one zone fee outbound and another at pickup in Zones A–E, from $400 to $1,200 each way. Zone F delivery is $1,795, pickup is quoted in writing and the zone has a 12-month minimum.

Fence rides with a container on the same order at no delivery charge. Ordered without one, the fence line pays one zone fee each way and shares it with any traffic-control or hand-wash line on the same order. A light tower or ground heater is towed and pays its own zone fee per unit whether or not a container is on the order. Check the delivery-zone table before issuing the estimate.

Use the calculator for the complete arithmetic

The calculator starts at 500 LF, Zone A and 3 months. It accepts linear feet, delivery zone, months, gates and a windscreen switch. It prints rent, waiver, environmental fee, installation, removal, delivery, pickup, deposit, first invoice and the term total from the same quote used by the reservation flow.

Gates and windscreen remain quoted lines. Selecting either turns the displayed totals into floors. Zone F pickup does the same because that return leg has no published amount; sales tax is added at invoicing where it applies.

Use the pricing page to compare the fence line with a light tower or traffic-control package. Those items have separate monthly rates and deposits. They do not change the fence's 10 LF measuring rule.

What municipal fence rules affect the site?

A fence rental quote does not decide the required pedestrian-protection plan or authorize occupation of a sidewalk, alley or curb lane. The authority with jurisdiction decides those points. Give the desk the address, work type, fence height, duration and a drawing that shows the property line and public way.

Start with the public edge

IBC Chapter 33, Section 3306.1 and Table 3306.1, require pedestrian protection during construction and set the protection type by construction height and distance to the lot line. Section 3306.2 says a walkway is provided in front of a construction or demolition site unless the governing authority authorizes the sidewalk to be fenced or closed. Confirm the locally adopted edition and required protection with the building department.

The table below is a routing tool, not a substitute for an approved traffic or pedestrian plan. A fence on private property and a fence occupying public right-of-way can require different reviews. How we built this table: Each linked authority page was opened on September 13, 2026. Where a published fence rule was not found, the row says to confirm with the department instead of carrying another town's rule across the boundary.

Denver, Aspen and Crested Butte are not the same

Denver's permit page warns that required documents may include a Street Occupancy permit and other applications. It does not turn that general notice into a fence specification. Confirm the exact submittal for the site and keep all supports outside the public travel path unless the approved plan says otherwise.

Aspen Municipal Code §21.04.060 expressly names temporary guardrails, pedestrian walkways, protective canopies and field offices in its public-way approval rule. It reaches similar temporary construction items, but the City Engineer decides whether and how a particular fence plan is accepted. Crested Butte publishes a separate seasonal limit: right-of-way permits are approved for May through October only.

Vail and Breckenridge department pages publish the correct contacts but did not support a fence-specific rule for this review. Confirm with the building department at 970-479-2139 in Vail or 970-453-3180 in Breckenridge. A phone confirmation is better than assuming the Denver, Aspen or Crested Butte route applies.

How should gates and screening appear in the quote?

Put every requested gate and every screened segment on the same drawing used for the footage. The written quote should identify them separately from published rent, installation, removal and transport. That keeps an unpriced option from disappearing inside a rounded per-foot allowance.

Treat quoted options as additions

A gate occupies a panel slot, but the hardware and configuration still add a quoted line. Record whether each opening is pedestrian or vehicle use, the desired clear width and the space available for movement. Do not promise swing, rolling or removable-panel operation until the accepted quote identifies it.

Windscreen should list the covered footage rather than simply saying “screen included.” A short privacy run at the office entrance presents a different field question from covering all 500 LF. The quote and ballast review should use the same screened length.

The calculator handles this honestly. A gate count or windscreen selection adds a “Quoted” line and marks the first invoice and term total as floors. It never hides a guessed premium in the monthly fence rate.

Keep the handoff specific

At delivery, walk the 50-panel example with the site representative before the line closes traffic routes. Confirm gate positions, screened runs and areas where ballast must remain undisturbed. Photographing the accepted route gives the superintendent a reference when trades begin moving material nearby.

During the rental, inspect after plowing, strong wind and any site phase that changes access. Report a shifted stand, loose clamp, torn screen or damaged panel. If the perimeter must move, the panels stay where they are until JOLT moves them: §5.5 requires prior written consent, and unauthorized movement voids the damage waiver. Update the measurement and layout with the yard first.

At removal, clear both sides and make the truck route available. Compare the rented panels, stands and clamps with the installed set. That closes the cost estimate with the actual service JOLT publishes: measured monthly rent, installed once and removed once.
