Long reads built on our own numbers: costs, permits, snow load, mountain delivery, power.
A conex box is a steel ISO shipping container. In Colorado, a 20 ft box rents for $295/mo and a 40 ft high-cube rents for $425/mo from JOLT's Gypsum yard, with a standard 2–4 week delivery window. Rental sizes are 10, 12, 20 and 40 ft. JOLT's 20 ft and 40 ft containers are one-trip units.
Compare rent, footprint, desks, bathroom service, delivery room, upgrades and ownership options before choosing a jobsite office.
Plan the unloading line, pad, gate, grade and winter access for a container delivery to a Colorado mountain jobsite.
Who reviews a container office, how power and inspections work, and which responsibilities stay with the superintendent.
Design snow loads for 26 Colorado places, what they mean on a 20 ft roof, what the ISO test proves and who must clear the roof.
Set a Colorado jobsite up in this order: access and staging first, then the fence, the office, storage, power and internet, sanitation, lighting and heat. The truck needs about 70 ft of straight run for a 20 ft unit and about 100 ft for a 40 ft unit, and the standard window is 2–4 weeks. The JOLT Site Kit puts the office, a 40 ft box, 200 LF of fence and a hand-wash station in one order for $2,705/mo.
A mobile office rents for $795 to $1,895 a month in Colorado from JOLT's Gypsum yard, on a 3-month minimum. Delivery is $400 to $1,200 each way by zone, pickup is a second leg at the same fee, and every invoice adds a 12% damage waiver and a 5% environmental fee on rent plus recurring upgrades. A $750 deposit holds the unit and credits the first invoice.
A Grid-Free office runs its mini-split, lights, outlets and Starlink from roof solar and a 10 kWh battery, with no shore power required; its WATCH camera charges from its own solar panel. It rents for $1,495/mo. The 3-month minimum and $750 deposit still apply. Winter output depends on sun, sky view and load, so use the tables below for planning rather than a runtime promise. The generator calculator adds the other path line by line.
For most Colorado mountain jobs, the 20 ft by 8 ft ground-level container office is the better fit: one threshold, a compact footprint, steel walls and barred windows. An office trailer wins when the plan needs 12 ft of width, several rooms or built-in plumbing. Neither type gets a blanket wind or snow approval. Read the site-specific data and confirm anchoring, access and permits before delivery.
Cold-weather planning starts when air may fall below 40°F during protection. Do not place on frozen ground. A hydronic heater circulates hot fluid through hose beneath insulating mats; the named HSH 700 example covers 2,196–4,402 sq ft for thawing. JOLT rents a heater for $1,450/mo in season with a $1,000 deposit, but confirms the assigned model in writing.
Renting a Base office at $795 a month passes its $17,500 delivered price in month 23. Lease-to-own at $845/mo for 36 months totals $30,420 and ends with title. The answer turns on how many months in the next 3 years the office will be working on a job rather than waiting between projects.
Colorado has no statewide permit for a shipping container. Each of the 18 jurisdictions below adopts its own code, and the answer turns on where the box sits: an active jobsite, a private lot or a public street. Summit County requires a temporary use permit for a construction office, Glenwood Springs caps a site at 1,000 sq ft of containers, Denver allows 180 days on a street, and 7 of the 18 desks publish no rule that reaches a container.
Storage container rent runs from $225 a month for a 10 ft box to $425 for a 40 ft high-cube. The 10, 12 and 20 ft sizes have a 1-month minimum; the 40 ft has a 3-month minimum. Deposits are $350 or $750, delivery is $400 to $1,200 each way, and monthly rent adds 12% and 5%.
JOLT rents installed temporary chain-link fence at $3.50/LF/mo with a 1-month minimum, a $500 deposit and a 100 LF minimum. A 200 LF perimeter is $700/mo in monthly rent. Each panel is 10 ft wide by 6 ft tall and comes with stands and clamps. Installation and removal are separate per-foot lines; gates and windscreen are quoted in writing.

Questions contractors ask
Where do the numbers in the guides come from?
From the same catalog that prices the reservation flow. Every rent, deposit and delivery fee a guide quotes is checked against the published price list before the page builds, so a figure in a guide is the figure you would pay.
Which page should I read first?
If you want a price, start with the pricing page or the rental page for the unit. If you want to understand a decision — office tier, fence length, delivery access, winter power — start with the guide on that topic, then the answers under it.
Do the guides cover sites outside Colorado?
Yes. The delivery, snow-load and power guides apply across the Mountain West, and the Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and Montana pages explain the Zone F terms that change: a 12-month minimum, delivery priced one way, and pickup quoted before delivery.
How often are the guides updated?
Each page shows the date it was last revised. The original-data guides — the Mountain Delivery Index, the cost guide and the snow-load table — are scheduled for quarterly revision, and when a price changes every page that quotes it changes with it.
