A 20 ft storage container rents for $295/mo from our yard in Gypsum, plus a zone delivery fee, and can be reserved today with a $350 deposit. It is a one-trip, standard-height box for tools and materials, on a one-month minimum, and it is the size most crews mean when they ask for a job box.

Why is the 20 ft box the default jobsite size?

This is the straightforward storage container most superintendents picture when they ask for a job box. It gives an active construction site a lockable steel room without consuming the length of a 40 ft unit, and it arrives empty so the field team can lay it out around the work.

The use case is materials and tool storage, not an office or walk-in retail room. Stage cordless tools, boxed fixtures, fasteners, consumables and weather-sensitive finish materials inside, then keep the door aisle open so crews do not unload half the box to reach one pallet at the back.

On a long project, assign rack bays or floor zones by trade. Electrical rough-in can occupy one wall, plumbing stock the other, and high-turn hand tools can stay nearest the cargo doors. That simple plan helps the superintendent see shortages before a crew loses time looking through mixed material.

The same footprint works for seasonal operations. A resort can rotate patio furniture, event hardware or maintenance supplies out of guest-facing space, while an HOA can consolidate pool equipment, landscape tools and winter signage between seasons. What does a 20 ft storage container cost?

The monthly price is $295/mo. The $350 deposit reserves a specific unit and a delivery window, then comes off the first invoice under Rental Agreement §2; cancel in writing more than 14 days before the first day of the window and it is refunded in full.

Rent starts when the container is delivered and remains due through the minimum term. After that, it continues month to month until you provide the required written pickup notice and our truck retrieves the unit. The rate increases by 5% on each anniversary of delivery, and sales tax is extra.

The standard damage waiver is 12% of rent plus recurring upgrades. It covers accidental damage subject to its deductible and exclusions, but it is not insurance; the alternative is a refundable deposit of one month's rent plus a certificate of insurance under Rental Agreement §10. The environmental fee is 5% of rent plus recurring upgrades and is not compounded on the waiver.

What is included with the standard container?

The rental includes a one-trip 20 ft ISO container at standard height. The end has cargo doors secured by four lock bars and a welded lockbox. There are no windows and no personnel door, which keeps the package focused on plain secure storage.

“One-trip” describes the container's history: it generally made one cargo move from the factory before entering the rental fleet. It does not mean no one has handled it, and normal handling marks can remain. The dimensions below use ISO 668 for the external size and minimum interior dimensions. Interior volume is from typical manufacturer specification sheets, so usable space can vary slightly with the exact build and door hardware.

The cargo doors favor forklift loading, pallet staging and material carts when access in front remains clear. They are less convenient when individual workers need to step in repeatedly throughout the day, because every visit uses the main door swing and locking hardware.

That distinction separates it from the 10 ft walk-in storage box and 12 ft walk-in storage box. Those shorter units add a man door and barred window for tool-crib traffic; the 10 ft also fits placements where this unit will not. Choose the 40 ft storage container when the job needs twice the floor area, high-cube height and one longer placement.

How should you load a 20 ft box?

Load heavy stock first and low, spread across the floor rather than piled against one wall or stacked at the door end, so the box stays level on its pad and the driver can lift it evenly at pickup. Keep a walkable aisle down the center from the cargo doors to the far wall; a container packed solid to the doors forces the crew to unload half of it to reach one item and hides damage or a leak until it has spread.

Use freestanding shelving and rolling chests that sit on the floor. The shell may not be drilled, welded or painted under Rental Agreement §7, so plan tie-downs and racks that do not attach to the walls or the roof bows. Leave the lock bars and lockbox clear of stock so the doors close fully every night, and keep fuel, paint and other hazardous materials in the site's designated storage rather than in the container.

Which upgrades fit a secure storage box?

WATCH is the direct security upgrade: a solar LTE panoramic camera mounted on the unit, with motion alerts and cloud clips, for $129/mo. Theft is excluded from the damage waiver under Rental Agreement §12, so the honest case for a camera is visibility and earlier notice, not a claim that it transfers theft risk.

The camera records at the site. The customer handles required recording notices and consents, and LTE performance depends on coverage, sky view, weather and load. Keep the lens view out of a door swing and pointed toward the approach the crew actually uses.

Add POWER for $399/mo when the container needs solar-backed power for the camera, lights, laptops or Starlink without becoming an office. Its two 400 W panels, 3 kWh LFP battery and inverter do not run HVAC. For a combined camera, internet and power package, JOLT PACK is $699/mo.

Upgrade kits are fitted in the yard before delivery and can also be added during the rental. Hardware remains JOLT's, bills monthly with rent and must stay on the unit. Solar, LTE and Starlink all depend on site conditions, so they are tools for the field plan rather than uptime guarantees.

For a container facing a public drive or resort service lane, BRAND logo vinyl can put a 24 × 48 in removable logo on two sides for $450. It is applied in the yard before delivery and remains JOLT property, which means crews should not paint over it or remove it.

What does the placement area need?

Prepare a firm, level and well-drained pad. A standard 20 ft container needs about 70 ft of straight-line clearance for our tilt-bed or flatbed truck under Rental Agreement §5, plus a clear route with workable width, turning room and overhead space.

Walk the route before dispatch with the actual truck path in mind. Mark utilities, remove parked equipment, and check for power lines, tree limbs, eaves, gate posts, snowbanks and stockpiles. A container that physically fits the corner can still be undeliverable if the truck cannot line up straight.

Choose a spot that will remain accessible through the work sequence. Fresh excavation, future scaffolding, concrete pumps and winter plowing can cut off cargo doors or the pickup path months later. Keep drainage moving away from the floor line and avoid soft fill or a low point that collects meltwater.

The customer handles permits, zoning, HOA and landlord approval. The answer to whether shipping containers are waterproof is also relevant to placement: the shell and door seals are intended to resist normal weather, but crews should still keep moisture-sensitive cartons off the floor, allow airflow and avoid trapping wet gear inside.

Do not stack, lift or drag the unit yourself. If the site sequence changes, our truck relocates it on site for $450. Damage from an unauthorized move is excluded from the damage waiver, and a planned move lets the driver check the new pad and the access to it.

How does delivery work from Gypsum?

Reserve the unit and select the standard delivery window through how it works. We assign the container, fit selected upgrades in our yard in Gypsum and schedule our truck for the address and zone on the reservation.

Before arrival, send the field plan to the person who will meet the driver. That representative must be present, know the intended door orientation and have authority to direct placement. Paint or stake the box corners so there is one clear answer when our truck enters an active site.

The driver lines up on the marked pad and sets the container where your representative directs. Damage to the site from a location you chose is your responsibility, so think about drainage and buried lines before you point. If access is unsafe, blocked or materially different from the plan, the trip is charged under Rental Agreement §5 and rescheduled.

For a seasonal property, coordinate delivery outside guest arrivals, waste pickup and service traffic. For an active construction project, clear the laydown lane and keep subcontractor vehicles out until our truck has exited. A short delivery meeting before dispatch prevents the superintendent, property manager and gate staff from giving different instructions.

Delivery to Gypsum, our home town, is Zone A — $400 each way. Vail is Zone B — $550 each way, Frisco is Zone C — $750 each way, Steamboat Springs is Zone D — $950 each way and Denver is Zone E — $1,200 each way. Pickup in Zones A–E costs the same as delivery; Zone F placements carry a 12-month minimum and their pickup is quoted in writing before delivery.

Door orientation should follow daily material flow. Face the doors toward the controlled work area, preserve room for both leaves to open, and avoid pointing them into the plow route. If WATCH is selected, confirm that the camera can see the approach without a roof edge, tree or future material stack blocking it.

What happens when the 20 ft container is picked up?

Send at least 15 days' written notice when the storage phase is ending. Give the requested retrieval timing, site contact and any access change since delivery, then keep the approach and the same straight working lane open for our truck.

Empty the container completely, sweep it clean and remove customer shelving, locks, signs, wiring and other attachments. Property left inside is deemed abandoned under Rental Agreement §16, and the unit must be accessible when our truck arrives.

Check the door path after the last material leaves. Frozen piles, dumpsters, temporary fence and newly staged pallets often appear in what was once an open lane. Snow and ice also need to be cleared from the roof, doors and access path as part of the customer's care obligations.

Rent continues until retrieval, not merely until the notice email or the day the crew stops using the box. A failed pickup trip is charged. In Zones A–E, pickup is the same published zone fee as delivery; Zone F placements carry a 12-month minimum, and their pickup is quoted in writing before delivery.

Before the driver arrives, have the superintendent or property representative make one final pass through the interior and around the unit. Confirm no trade has left fittings behind, no field modification ties the box to another structure, and the truck can leave without crossing fresh work.
