Choose a single container office when its defined format meets the team's room requirements; request a connected multi-module building when the plan calls for connected rooms and shared indoor circulation. JOLT's office choices use 20 ft or 40 ft ISO containers. Those choices are not an offer to join, stack or connect units into an office complex.
Does the team need one workroom or a connected office suite?
Write the room list before selecting a building label. Identify workstations, plan review, private conversations, meetings and any requirement for a bathroom inside the office. Note which activities happen simultaneously and which can share space at different times. That turns a broad request for more office space into a room program a provider can evaluate.
The Modular Building Institute describes factory-produced modules that are put together at the site (modular.org, what is modular construction, checked October 22, 2026). Container-based buildings can also be modular, so the terms are not inherently opposites. The useful distinction is a single container office versus a connected building assembled from multiple modules. Do not assume every prefabricated office belongs to the same configuration.
JOLT's 20 ft office family uses a 20 ft ISO container format, while the 40 ft office with bathroom uses a 40 ft ISO container. Ask the project desk to evaluate the chosen format against your room list. Neither length establishes an occupant allowance or a private-office count. A workable equipment description still needs a project-specific layout review.
Draw the relationships between activities as well as the rooms themselves. If a meeting interrupts phone work in the same space, record that conflict for the provider rather than assuming a longer office resolves it. If team members need to circulate indoors between rooms, put that requirement in writing. Separate containers on the same site should not be treated as a connected interior.
Keep a single office trailer as a separate comparison. The office trailer versus container office guide addresses that product decision; it is not the same as selecting an assembled multi-module building. Avoid using "trailer" as shorthand for every temporary office proposal. Request a drawing and product description so procurement and field staff are evaluating the same arrangement.
What does a multi-module building add to the room plan?
Mobile Modular describes a complex as multiple connected modular buildings and offers space planning for offices, meeting rooms and other required spaces (mobilemodular.com, frequently asked questions, checked October 22, 2026). That supports asking the supplier for a connected room plan. It does not establish a universal room menu or guarantee the same configuration from another provider. The proposed layout needs its own scope and approval.
A room list should distinguish mandatory separation from preferences. Mark the activities that must have separate rooms and identify the relationships that matter, such as a meeting area near the project team's workstations. Include equipment and storage needs without assuming the supplier will infer them from staff count. Ask for a plan that shows the proposed arrangement rather than accepting a building length as the answer.
At the far end, the 40 ft JOLT office contains a bathroom within its own enclosure. Its included equipment covers lights and outlets, a mini-split for cooling and heat, vinyl-plank flooring and an inlet for 50-amp shore power. The bathroom description is not a fixture schedule or a plumbing connection specification. Obtain project-specific coordination information instead of designing utility work around an assumed connection.
| Single container office | Connected multi-module building | |
|---|---|---|
| Format | JOLT: 20 ft or 40 ft ISO container | MBI: factory modules assembled on site |
| Connected rooms | JOLT: select a published single-unit format | Mobile Modular: connected complexes; space planning |
| Bathroom | JOLT 40 ft: enclosed bathroom at far end | Confirm in the written quote |
| Heating and cooling | JOLT: mini-split | Mobile Modular: HVAC controls temperature, humidity and air quality |
| Power | JOLT: 50-amp inlet; Base needs external supply | Confirm in the written quote |
| Off-grid option | JOLT Grid-Free: 10 kWh HVAC battery; no shore power | Confirm in the written quote |
| Placement | Obtain instructions for the quoted unit and site | Mobile Modular: leveling, pad or piers by building type |
| Delivery planning | JOLT: 2–4 weeks after reservation confirmation | Mobile Modular: allow extra time for customization |
| Later relocation | Obtain project-specific approval and scope | MBI: disassembly and module relocation possible |
| Rental minimum | JOLT outside Colorado: 12 months | Confirm in the written quote |
Use the table to develop questions, not to rank every container and modular building by category. Mobile Modular's HVAC description concerns temperature, humidity and air-quality control; it does not establish electrical service requirements for a specific proposed building. Likewise, JOLT's 50-amp inlet does not establish the service needed by a connected complex. Match utilities to the actual equipment and layout.
Review the room program with the people who will use it. Ask them to mark where conversations, plan review and shared equipment would conflict during a normal shift. Send the revisions back before requesting a final proposal. A provider can address a stated conflict more directly than a general instruction to make the office larger.
Keep a distinction between required rooms and equipment that can move within a room. A plan table, records cabinet and meeting area each need a location on the proposed drawing, but their placement should not be mistaken for an additional enclosed office. Ask the provider to show the intended circulation around them. Review the resulting plan against daily use rather than adding an unsupported staff capacity to the order.
Which installation tasks must the project schedule include?
Separate delivery from readiness for use. Ask each provider to list placement, assembly, utility coordination, inspections and any customer work required for its proposed building. Assign an owner and target date to each task. Do not substitute an assumed installation duration for a written sequence accepted by the provider and project team.
Falcon describes its portable ISO container product as needing neither a foundation nor structural assembly (falconstructures.com, shipping container dimensions, checked October 22, 2026). That statement belongs to Falcon's product, not to JOLT's site requirements or the local approval process. It is not permission to omit project-specific siting instructions. Ask what the assigned unit and chosen location require before scheduling supporting work.
For connected buildings, Mobile Modular lists possible preparation including leveling, foundation pads or piers, depending on building type. Obtain installation instructions for the selected building rather than extending that list to every modular project. For local siting and approval requirements, confirm with the local building department. A product description alone does not settle the site's approval process.
JOLT's normal delivery window is 2–4 weeks after a reservation is confirmed. Mobile Modular advises adding time for design, fabrication and delivery when customization is required. Neither statement supports a claim that one product always arrives sooner. Put the desired occupancy date in the request and ask each provider to work back through its own delivery and readiness tasks.
Carry decision dates on the schedule as well as field activities. A room-plan change may require the supplier to revisit its proposal, so identify who signs off the layout and when. Keep utility questions and siting instructions attached to that decision. The office site-preparation answer can help organize the questions, but the assigned building still needs its own instructions.
Use a readiness review before committing the occupancy date to other trades. Ask the provider and site team to identify any open dependency, then record the person responsible for closing it. If the proposed building or placement changes, repeat that review against the revised arrangement. An earlier answer for another configuration should not quietly become the installation plan for the new one.
How should you compare HVAC, power and bathroom requirements?
JOLT offices include mini-split heating and cooling along with lights, outlets and vinyl-plank flooring. Operating Base requires an external supply: shore power through its 50-amp inlet or a generator furnished by the customer. Record who will provide that supply and when it will be available. The office's delivery date and the project's electrical readiness date are separate planning items.
The 20 ft Grid-Free office includes the Base features plus built-in WATCH, CONNECT and POWER systems and a 10 kWh battery that operates HVAC. It does not require shore power. Treat that as a specific JOLT office configuration rather than assuming every container office runs without an external supply. Name the selected configuration in the request so the quote matches the power plan.
For a multi-module proposal, ask for the electrical and mechanical requirements tied to its actual room plan. Mobile Modular's general HVAC description does not establish a service amperage, circuit arrangement or connection method. Confirm in the written quote. Give the project electrician the provider's requirements rather than asking for an installation based on another building's inlet.
For JOLT's bathroom office, identify the enclosed bathroom as a required feature but leave hookup design to project coordination. Do not assume a fixture list or a published plumbing connection detail. Ask the desk to review what information is needed for the intended site and use. A bathroom inside the unit does not remove the need to settle the surrounding project scope.
Compare responsibilities line by line before calling either proposal complete. Ask what the supplier provides, what another contractor must provide and what must be ready before use. Put unresolved utility items on a decision list with an owner. This is more useful than treating "office with HVAC" or "office with bathroom" as proof that all related site work is included.
What changes when the office must move to the next project?
Portability is a category description, not a relocation booking. The Modular Building Institute describes modular buildings that can be disassembled and their modules relocated or refurbished. It does not establish a guaranteed move date or a complete relocation scope for a rental provider. Ask the provider to evaluate the origin, destination and proposed timing before putting the move into the next project's mobilization plan.
For the container proposal, request the same level of detail without assuming a particular transport method. Identify what must be removed from the office and which systems must be disconnected. Ask who is authorized to perform each part of the work and who confirms the new placement. Do not promise a JOLT mid-project move or treat a first delivery as approval for later relocation.
A connected building needs its proposed move sequence identified as part of that discussion. Ask how the supplier will address disassembly, transportation and reinstallation for the particular arrangement. Keep those tasks separate from moving desks and records. The fact that modules can be relocated does not settle whether the existing building is the right configuration for the next site.
Review both sites together if reuse is part of the business case. Send the second room program and site constraints while the provider is still evaluating relocation, rather than assuming the original layout will fit. Ask for any revised installation and utility responsibilities. Use the resulting scope, not a general claim about portability, when comparing continued use with a different order.
Do not choose the building type from project duration alone. A long assignment can still have a modest room program, while a shorter assignment may require connected spaces. Compare the duration, room relationships and relocation plan as separate requirements. For jobs also needing tool and material storage, keep that purchase decision in the storage container versus storage trailer comparison.
What should each delivered quote include before you decide?
Start the JOLT request with the office configuration, job ZIP and room requirements. Use the delivery rules by state to distinguish the transport arrangements. Colorado plus Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Montana have fixed published fees per unit for each direction, and pickup equals delivery. Elsewhere in the lower 48, and for Alaska or Hawaii, both delivery and pickup are priced for the project.
Submit the nationwide project quote request when that project-priced case applies. Allow one business day for JOLT's written delivered proposal; after the 5:00pm Mountain Time cutoff, that response period starts on the following business day. The quote has a 14-day validity period. Use its emailed "Reserve this quote" link so checkout includes the delivery and pickup attached to that proposal.
Every JOLT rental outside Colorado has a 12-month minimum. Do not apply a shorter office commitment merely because the project is in one of the other fixed-fee delivery states. For a multi-module supplier's minimum, deposit, rate adjustments and pickup notice, use "Confirm in the written quote". Compare the same expected occupancy period and include installation and removal responsibilities alongside the rental term.
Use JOLT's price schedule to review the chosen office's published rent, then reconcile the order with transport and recurring charges. For a modular proposal, request the building configuration, rent, delivery, assembly, utilities, retrieval and any other charges as distinct lines. Ask what changes if the room plan changes before approval. Do not compare a single rent figure with another provider's complete delivered scope.
Colorado office rentals require at least three months, rather than the year required beyond the state. JOLT applies the reservation deposit to the first invoice under Rental Agreement section 2. Check the recurring total for upgrades, the percentage-based damage waiver, environmental fee and applicable sales tax, and carry the published annual rent escalator into any anniversary budget.
For JOLT pickup, send written notice at least 15 days ahead as required by Rental Agreement section 16. To cancel without charge, provide written notice more than 14 days ahead of the first day in the delivery window. Keep those different deadlines beside the room-plan approval dates so a revised occupancy plan triggers the appropriate action.
The national office and storage directory helps identify providers to ask about the required building format. The Mountain West provider directory offers a regional starting point when appropriate. Approve the order only after the room plan, utility responsibilities, readiness schedule and exit plan agree with the written proposal. The appropriate building is the one whose documented arrangement supports the team's work.
Questions contractors ask
Are container offices and modular construction mutually exclusive?
No. Container-based buildings can use modular methods; the decision here separates a single container office from a building assembled from connected modules.
Is a connected modular building the same as one office trailer?
No. A connected multi-module building combines modules into a building, while a single chassis-mounted office trailer is a different configuration to compare separately.
When should we request a connected office layout?
Request a connected layout when your room list and working relationships call for shared indoor circulation between offices or meeting spaces, then have the provider develop the plan.
Can I order joined JOLT offices as an open-plan complex?
Do not assume that configuration is available from JOLT. Ask the project desk to review the required arrangement rather than ordering separate containers as a connected building.
Do all multi-module buildings use the same foundation arrangement?
No. Mobile Modular describes site work that may include leveling, a foundation pad or piers, depending on the building type; obtain instructions for the proposed building.
Must every JOLT office have an external electrical supply?
Base needs shore power or a generator provided by the customer, while the 20 ft Grid-Free office needs no shore power and includes a 10 kWh battery for HVAC.
Does portability guarantee a move to the next site?
No. Ask the provider to approve the proposed relocation and define preparation, transport, reinstallation and charges before using that move in the project schedule.
How should an out-of-state JOLT office rental be scheduled?
Plan for a 12-month minimum outside Colorado and a standard delivery window of 2–4 weeks after reservation confirmation, with the applicable delivery arrangement agreed for the job address.
