Louisiana received the second-largest dollar volume of data center construction starts in the nation in 2025, behind Virginia, according to Dodge Construction Network, and has 11 data centers under construction and 16 announced as of March 2026 against 10 operating, according to Aterio, almost all of it one project: Meta's Hyperion campus in Richland Parish, planned at multiple gigawatts on 2,250 acres near Holly Ridge, with West Feliciana Parish, Baton Rouge and Shreveport behind it.
Louisiana's numbers are the shape of a single decision: a hyperscaler chose a parish that had never had a data center and started building the largest one in the country, with three gas plants to run it. The state's construction count is mid-table; its dollar volume of starts is the second-largest program in the country. The offices for it land on Delta farmland before power, before fiber, in air that holds 75-degree dew points from May to October. That is what this page is about.
Where are data centers being built in Louisiana right now?
Richland Parish and Holly Ridge. Meta's Hyperion campus, announced in December 2024 with a multi-billion-dollar first phase, sits between Rayville and Delhi on Interstate 20 in northeast Louisiana, planned at up to 5 gigawatts across a build measured in years, with Entergy Louisiana building three gas plants and a transmission program to feed it. It is the largest single data center construction site in the country by acreage, and it drew the largest share of the state's construction starts.
West Feliciana Parish. A hyperscale campus near St. Francisville on the Mississippi River north of Baton Rouge, on Entergy's system beside the River Bend nuclear plant, in permitting and early construction.
Baton Rouge and the river parishes. Colocation and enterprise builds in East Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes, on the petrochemical corridor's grid and fiber.
Shreveport and Caddo Parish. Campus proposals in the northwest corner, on SWEPCO's system and the gas fields.
Monroe and Ouachita Parish. Colocation and the support work that follows Hyperion, 30 miles west of Richland Parish on I-20.
Louisiana attracts the work with land in thousand-acre parcels, gas, a legislature that passed a data center sales-tax rebate in 2024, and utilities that will build generation for a customer. Phases and names change quarterly; JOLT checks each project against a parish filing or local reporting at every refresh of this page.
Which hyperscalers, developers and general contractors are active in Louisiana?
Meta at Richland Parish, with the campus developers behind West Feliciana and Shreveport, and the colocation operators following into Baton Rouge and Monroe.
The general contractors with data center groups working in Louisiana include DPR, Turner, Holder, Yates Construction from across the Mississippi line, Brasfield & Gorrie, and the Louisiana builders that grew up on the state's petrochemical and industrial work, Lemoine, Boh Bros. and Milton J. Womack. A Louisiana hyperscale building runs 18 to 24 months per building and the Hyperion campus runs years, on a greenfield where the electrical contractor's office lands on a generator before the GC's temporary service exists, and where the power contractor's crew building the gas plants and the switchyard is on site before anyone else.
What does a Louisiana data center site office need?
Humidity, rain, wind and soft ground, more of each than any other market on this site.
Humidity. Northeast Louisiana runs in the mid 90s from June through September with dew points in the mid to upper 70s; Baton Rouge is worse. A steel box in that air sweats unless the wall is insulated and the cooling pulls moisture. The Grid's walls are R-19 closed-cell foam behind the steel, and its two heat pumps pull moisture as they cool.
Rain and drainage. Sixty inches a year, in storms that put three inches on a pad in an afternoon, on Delta soils that hold it. The Grid is leveled on cribbing at its four corner castings, so the compacted bearing surface must drain away from the doors.
Soft ground. Richland Parish is farmland on Delta silt and clay. Tell the specialist about the subgrade and the approach on the first call, and use the site-requirements checklist to plan the bearing surface and access.
Wind. Northeast Louisiana takes tornadoes year-round and the inland remnants of Gulf hurricanes; Baton Rouge and the river parishes take the hurricanes themselves. Every Grid receives four-point anchoring; the owner's engineer and the authority having jurisdiction set any project-specific criteria.
Lightning and heat. The site's electrician and safety team should include the steel office, its electrical service and its placement in the project's grounding and lightning-safety plan. The tan RAL 1015 finish reflects sunlight.
How does The Grid get to a Louisiana site?
The Grid's legal transport width lets a flatbed carry it into Louisiana without an oversize permit, route survey or pilot car.
DC Deploy covers freight to a Louisiana site, tilt-bed placement or crane set, leveling on cribbing, four-point anchoring, an electrical rough-in walkthrough with the site's electrician and end-of-term pickup. See the nationwide delivery package.
What does a Grid cost on a Louisiana data center site?
Louisiana crews can compare current Core and Command rent, deposits and options on the data-center pricing page. DC Deploy is quoted per campus.
Louisiana state and parish sales taxes are added where they apply; the state's data center rebate covers the owner's equipment, not a rental office. DC Deploy is quoted for the specific campus.
What is the power picture in Louisiana and when does temp power land?
Entergy Louisiana serves Richland Parish, West Feliciana, Baton Rouge and the river parishes, and it is building generation for the Hyperion campus: three gas plants totaling more than 2 gigawatts, approved by the Louisiana Public Service Commission in 2025, with a transmission program to match. SWEPCO serves Shreveport and the northwest; Cleco serves the center of the state. Louisiana's utilities will build a plant for a customer, which is why the campuses are here, and a campus's schedule is set by that generation program and the permitting more than by an interconnection queue.
For a site office, the utility's timeline matters on the day the office lands. Every Louisiana campus under construction is a greenfield, and the GC's temporary service trails the first mobilization by two to eight weeks; the power contractor's crew, which will build the plants, lands first with nothing. Grid Command's 50 A generator inlet with a mechanical interlock lets a generator power the office until the electrician gets a 60 A circuit to the pad; the site electrician sizes the generator and confirms the load plan. JOLT's optional 25 kW standby generator is $1,850/mo plus fuel.
Do you need a permit for a temporary site office in Louisiana?
In Richland, West Feliciana, East Baton Rouge, Ascension, Caddo and Ouachita parishes, a temporary construction office is an accessory to the project's building permit and is shown on the site logistics plan with an anchoring detail on file. Louisiana's parishes administer the state uniform construction code, and the cities of Baton Rouge, Shreveport and Monroe issue a temporary-structure permit with a fee and, in the coastal and river parishes, a wind-rating statement for temporary structures. On unincorporated parish land, where the campus acreage sits, the site plan is the only filing.
Confirm the requirement with the authority having jurisdiction named on your building permit. Bring the parish's or the GC's anchoring and insurance requests to the data center specialist before the delivery window.
How long is a Louisiana site office term?
Long. A Louisiana building runs 18 to 24 months from permit to energized, so a single-building placement is a 12-to-24-month term, and JOLT's 12-month minimum with month-to-month after it fits without a renewal. The Hyperion campus runs years across many buildings and three power plants, and on it the office moves every 15 to 20 months as a building turns over: one or two $1,250 relocations, not a new mobilization.
For a GC, a power contractor or an electrical contractor on a Richland Parish program, compare rental with the purchase and 36-month lease-to-own rows on the Grid buy page. For one colocation building in Baton Rouge, rent.
How do multi-building Louisiana campuses use a Grid Campus?
A Richland Parish campus is built in the order the power comes on and then two and three buildings at a time, and the GC's project office, the owner's rep, the power and electrical contractors, the mechanical contractor and the security office all move as the work moves. A Grid Campus places 2 to 12 Grids in a row or stacked two-high; each stacked pair uses a Stack Kit, a stair tower, landing and guardrail, at $395/mo plus $1,500 setup. An on-campus move is $1,250 per unit to unplug, unanchor, lift by the corner castings, land, anchor and reconnect. One order of 6 or more Commands earns a 5 percent rent credit each month for the first 12 months.
Which Louisiana parishes and metros does JOLT serve?
All of them. The parishes carrying data center construction today: Richland, which is Holly Ridge, Rayville and Delhi; Ouachita, which is Monroe; West Feliciana, which is St. Francisville; East Baton Rouge and Ascension; and Caddo, which is Shreveport. Other Louisiana parishes can be quoted too; DC Deploy is quoted per campus in one business day and the window is 6–8 weeks.

Make hurricane readiness an office decision point
Louisiana campus planning must account for the full tropical-weather work season. The National Weather Service hurricane safety guidance identifies the Atlantic hurricane season as June 1 through November 30. Project teams should connect the temporary-office plan to the site's existing severe-weather plan before that period begins.
Name who decides whether the office is secured, vacated or moved. Include document protection, customer network equipment and exterior access-control equipment. Four-point anchoring does not replace the owner's wind criteria or emergency procedures.
Check the bearing area and drainage before forecast rain arrives. Keep water directed away from both personnel doors and the electrical connection. Protect the access route needed by the project's response plan from laydown or parked equipment.
Command adds roof masts, cameras and Starlink equipment. Include those delivered exterior items in the site's weather review. The owner should also decide how badge readers and other vendor-installed equipment are handled under its plan.
Prepare a parish approval packet for each placement
Start with the authority named on the project's issued permit documents. A Louisiana campus can involve parish, municipal, fire, floodplain and electrical review, so the construction address and parcel matter more than the nearest metro name.
Describe the proposed office consistently: a 40 ft by 8 ft high-cube container with two personnel doors, four corner anchoring points and a customer electrical connection. Show its position on the logistics plan and identify whether delivery calls for tilt-bed placement or a crane set.
Ask the reviewer whether the main building permit covers the temporary office. Confirm any separate filing, inspection, accessibility, anchoring or electrical documentation required for that location. Put the written response in the delivery packet.
Assign each item to the right project party. Civil work owns the bearing surface and drainage. Site logistics owns the route. The electrician owns the customer connection. The owner's vendor controls badge-reader integration.
Review the approval again before an on-campus move. A location accepted near the first building does not automatically establish approval beside a later phase, particularly when access roads, flood routes or fire lanes have changed.
Normalize Louisiana office quotes before award
Compare written scopes over the same expected term. Keep recurring rent separate from placement, anchoring, pickup, add-ons and any planned campus relocation. A single monthly figure can hide which party still owns those tasks.
Check the selected build line by line. Core supplies four workstations and the site-fiber-ready data package. Command adds six workstations, badge-ready doors, WATCH, CONNECT and the generator inlet.
For the Louisiana site condition, require the proposal to state the delivery method and placement responsibility. Give every bidder the same information about the access route, bearing area, drainage plan and crane expectations.
Use DC Deploy as a scope benchmark. Freight is covered, and the set may use a tilt bed or crane. Leveling is performed on cribbing. Anchoring uses four points. The other covered items are the electrical rough-in walkthrough and pickup when the term ends. Confirm each competing line in writing rather than assuming “delivery” covers the same work.
Stage Richland Parish office growth by function
A multi-building program should assign office functions before assigning containers. Identify which groups need permanent desks and which only need scheduled meeting access.
Core provides four workstations. Command provides six and carries the conference package. A meeting chair is not a workstation, so avoid counting table capacity as full-time desk capacity.
Place the first unit for the current work face and protected access. Reserve a future bearing area and route for the next phase.
Use a clear expansion trigger. Workstations reaching capacity is one. A new controlled-access function is another.
If a stacked arrangement is being considered, coordinate the Stack Kit, crane plan and local review in advance. Each stacked pair uses one stair tower, landing and guardrail package.
How do I reserve a Grid for a Louisiana project?
