Rent a JOLT construction storage container by choosing a 10, 12, 20 or 40 ft unit, identifying the job ZIP and confirming the term and transport. Every size has a welded lockbox. Outside Colorado the minimum is 12 months; destinations beyond Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Montana need project-specific delivery and pickup pricing.

Which container length and door layout suit your materials?

Start with an inventory of what will enter the container and how often each item will be retrieved. Note long materials, equipment that needs clear access and supplies that turn over during different work phases. Then consider the door arrangement alongside the length. A container that holds the inventory on paper can still be inconvenient if the required items are buried behind everything else.

Side entry distinguishes the 10 ft storage container and 12 ft storage container: each has a walk-in man door beside a barred window along its length. Both also have cargo doors at the end. If the team wants separate everyday walk-in access and end loading, those are the stated options to examine first. Verify their orientation against the proposed placement.

The 20 ft storage container uses cargo doors with four lock bars. It has neither a man door nor windows and is standard height. Plan retrieval around the cargo-door end instead of drawing a side entrance that is not part of the unit. Show that access point clearly when the site team reviews the location.

The 40 ft storage container is a high cube, 9 ft 6 in tall. That exterior height is not a statement of usable internal height, door opening or storage capacity for a particular load. Ask for the information needed to evaluate a tall or awkward item. Do not turn the high-cube description into a promise that every item on the inventory will fit.

Assign the choice to someone who understands the actual materials flow. Procurement can compare length and monthly rent, while the superintendent checks the access plan and expected use. Resolve disagreements with the inventory rather than a general preference for the largest or smallest unit. The right selection should be explainable in terms of what the crew will store and retrieve.

What changes between 10, 12, 20 and 40 ft storage?

All four JOLT storage sizes are one-trip containers fitted with a welded lockbox. That is the common equipment description. It does not establish a theft-proof enclosure, a hazardous-material approval or a guarantee for every item the customer might place inside. Evaluate any special storage requirement separately before including it in the rental scope.

Length and door arrangement are the first stated differences to carry into an order. The smaller pair has side walk-in access and a barred window, while the 20 ft unit has its stated cargo-only arrangement. The 40 ft option adds the high-cube height. Do not assume an unstated feature from a photograph of another size.

The Colorado minimum also changes with selection. Storage in 10, 12 and 20 ft sizes has a one-month minimum there, while 40 ft storage has a three-month minimum. For all other states, a rental requires a minimum commitment of 12 months. A Wyoming, Utah, Idaho or Montana destination therefore has the outside-Colorado term even though its transport uses the Mountain West pricing case.

Compare current equipment charges through rental pricing. The 20 ft storage rent is $295/mo, and 40 ft storage rent is $425/mo. Use the storage rental cost overview for the separate cost question. Do not let a monthly rent comparison hide a different minimum commitment or a missing pickup allowance.

The written selection should identify the size and the features that matter to the site. For example, state that side walk-in access is part of the reason for requesting the smaller unit. That lets the desk and project team recognize a proposed substitution that needs another review. An order should describe the intended equipment clearly enough to avoid relying on memory.

What access and placement information should you collect?

Collect the exact address, job ZIP, proposed position and current site contact. Prepare a drawing that shows the intended container and the access points the crew will use. Include photographs when they help communicate the actual approach. Ask the project desk what additional information it needs rather than presenting a general delivery-clearance estimate as a specification.

Describe the placement surface and any current constraints honestly. If the site will change before arrival, explain which conditions exist now and which work is still planned. Keep one person responsible for updating that information. A quote request based on an outdated entrance or a future pad that is not ready can leave important coordination questions unresolved.

Check local permission separately from the rental transaction. Maricopa County's procedure DD-5010-01, procedures two and four, requires a separate building permit for each group of construction storage trailers and calls for site plans. That is a county-specific example, not the rule for every U.S. site (maricopa.gov, construction storage and office trailers DD-5010-01, checked October 22, 2026).

Ask the authority for your location what it needs for the proposed storage use. Give it the site and equipment description rather than simply asking whether containers are allowed. Record any approved position or condition with the placement drawing. A rental reservation is not a permit guarantee.

Review door orientation before finalizing the position. Leave the access arrangement visible on the drawing so later parking, material staging or work areas are not planned over it by mistake. Ask the desk to review any issue that could affect delivery or eventual collection. Do not assume the unit can simply be shifted with contents inside if the original position becomes inconvenient.

How do you request a nationwide delivered quote?

JOLT supplies storage rental projects nationwide from its business based in Gypsum, Colorado. Transport has two pricing cases. Fixed fees apply in Montana, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and Colorado, with a matching charge for each unit's outward and return journeys. Other lower-48 destinations, plus Alaska and Hawaii, receive delivery and pickup pricing for the individual project.

Use the delivery pricing rule by state to identify the applicable case. For project-priced transport, submit the job ZIP and chosen container through the nationwide project quote request. Include the site information needed to explain the proposed delivery. Do not fill the procurement allowance with a guessed nationwide fee.

The response deadline for a written delivered quote is one business day. For submissions past 5:00pm Mountain Time, count that response period starting with the next business day. The quote is valid for 14 days. Its email has a Reserve this quote link that opens checkout using that quote's delivery and pickup charges.

Review the equipment, transport in both directions and the rental commitment before using that link. Ask for corrections if the size, ZIP or scope does not match the intended order. Save the accepted proposal with the purchase order. The cross-country container delivery answer addresses freight-quote planning without turning distance into a promised flat fee.

Allow for the standard 2–4 week delivery window measured from a confirmed reservation. The one-business-day written quote response is not a one-business-day delivery promise. Coordinate the storage availability with the material purchasing schedule accordingly. Use the mobile office delivery timing answer for the related reservation-window distinction, not as a guarantee of an earlier storage arrival.

How should materials be arranged to keep access clear?

OSHA 1926.250(a)(3) requires aisles and passageways to remain clear for safe movement of employees and material-handling equipment. It also requires those areas to be kept in good repair. Treat that as a storage and handling duty, not a product certification attached to the rented container (osha.gov, 1926.250 material storage and handling, checked October 22, 2026).

Have the site team decide how supplies will be received, placed and retrieved before the first delivery of materials. Identify what must be reached frequently and what can remain stored for a later phase. Keep the door arrangement central to that decision. A plan for side walk-in access should not be copied unchanged to a cargo-only 20 ft unit.

Give someone responsibility for keeping that arrangement usable during the job. Storage conditions change as crews add returns, packaging and materials for upcoming work. Review the actual arrangement rather than assuming the initial plan remains intact. Escalate questions about the materials themselves to the responsible project safety personnel.

Do not infer hazardous-material suitability from the presence of a lockbox. A lockbox describes part of the container's physical arrangement; it does not answer every question about what may safely or lawfully be stored. Provide special material requirements before ordering. Confirm the proposed use in the written quote instead of expecting an ordinary storage description to approve it.

Do not promise that a camera prevents theft either. WATCH adds a solar LTE camera with a panoramic view, cloud clips and motion alerts as a monthly container upgrade. Decide whether that stated function belongs in the project scope. Physical access control and the site's security plan still need their own review.

Can a storage rental be treated as a loaded transport service?

Do not assume that delivery of a rental container authorizes moving it later with project materials inside. Describe any intended relocation to JOLT and request a written response before making a plan around it. A stationary storage need and a transportation need are different scopes. The order should not blur them because both involve a container.

FMCSA's discussion of 49 CFR 393.126 addresses intermodal containers transported on chassis and other vehicles. It also explains that cargo inside intermodal containers is subject to applicable cargo-securement requirements. Those transport rules are distinct from day-to-day storage access after placement (fmcsa.dot.gov, cargo securement rules and intermodal containers, checked October 22, 2026).

That federal guidance does not establish a JOLT loaded-relocation service or a price for one. Confirm in the written quote any proposed transport of contents and the scope under consideration. Do not assume that locking cargo doors is the same thing as satisfying transportation requirements. Leave classification and securement questions with the parties qualified to address the actual movement.

If a later phase may need storage in a different location, disclose that possibility during procurement. Ask what would need to be reviewed if the plan changes. Keep any answer with the rental record rather than relying on a field conversation recalled months later. The objective is to avoid buying materials around a movement that no one has actually agreed to perform.

At closeout, ask how the container should be prepared for collection. Plan the removal of customer materials around those instructions and the agreed schedule. Do not use pickup notice as an instruction to ship the inventory to the next project. A return request should be clear about whether the customer is ending stationary storage or proposing a different service.

How do minimum terms and pickup notice affect the job schedule?

Put the minimum commitment into the storage procurement schedule at the start. In Colorado, the 10–20 ft storage sizes have a one-month minimum and the 40 ft size has three months. A location in any other state carries a 12-month minimum for every rental. The construction phase length does not override that geographic rule.

Rental Agreement §16 sets a written-notice requirement: give JOLT a minimum of 15 days before pickup. That notice is separate from the minimum commitment. Ask how your planned collection date aligns with the agreement before telling accounting to close the rental. Do not invent proration or an automatic billing cutoff based solely on the request date.

If the project no longer needs the unit before it arrives, the advance cancellation rule is different. Free cancellation requires notice in writing, provided earlier than 14 days ahead of the window's first delivery day. Exactly 14 days does not meet that condition. Obtain the applicable response if the project proposes a change closer to arrival.

For longer jobs, include the annual rent escalation on each delivery anniversary in budget review. Alongside rent, allow for the percentage-based damage waiver, environmental fee and sales tax where applicable. Recurring upgrades belong in that review too. Ask accounting to separate those ongoing costs from the quoted delivery and pickup legs.

Compare the materials schedule with the container request before releasing either order. Identify which purchases need storage immediately and which can arrive during a later phase. If storage is not yet available, decide where those early materials will go rather than relying on an unconfirmed arrival date. Keep that decision with the purchasing schedule so a revised material order does not quietly change the storage requirement.

Give the person managing the container inventory a copy of the selected door arrangement. That person can organize retrieval around the actual entrances rather than learning the layout after materials arrive. Include that contact when the team considers a different size, because a substitution can change how the inventory needs to be arranged.

Before authorizing the order, leave the team with a complete set of decisions: chosen size, door arrangement, intended materials, placement information, term and transport proposal. Name the person who will update the desk if the site plan changes. That makes construction site storage container rental a defined project purchase rather than an open-ended request for a box. It also gives the eventual pickup coordinator a usable starting record.
