Why a rental container usually needs no poured foundation, what a good pad looks like, and when a permanent building needs engineered support.

0:00Does a container need a foundation?

Usually not. A rental container stands on its four corner castings, so what it needs is a firm, level, well-drained pad under all four corners: compacted road base, gravel, asphalt or concrete. Keep water draining away from the doors.

0:16When is a foundation required?

A permanent container building can need an engineered foundation.

If the ground slopes more than about two percent, build a level gravel pad rather than stacking blocks, and check all four corners after a thaw.

Make sure the delivery truck can reach the pad.
